Give your cabinets a facelift with some paint and some fantastic knobs.

While I’m in the business of selling you new cabinets, I’m also in the business of cutting costs and working with what you have. Do your cabinets need a face lift? Why not try some paint and some shiny new knobs or pulls? It’s a surefire way to speed up your cabinets.

My mom recently decided she wanted to redo her cabinets, however, completely redoing cabinets is quite an expensive makeover. I offered the idea of painting the front of the cabinets and putting in knobs/pulls here and there to create a little more design and a whole new atmosphere. The difference between a knob and a pull is basically that a knob is round with a screw holding it in place and a pull is shaped almost like a zero cut in half, requiring two screws to hold it in place. Sweaters may have a rounded or crossed flat bar. I would take a look at a few different options and see what works best with your kitchen! There are a few things to remember before you start.

When choosing the color of the cabinets and knobs/pulls that you would like, don’t forget the color of the walls and flooring that will accompany these new additions. Most likely (and I hope this includes everyone) the cabinets will be a solid color, white, tan, camel, tan shade… which makes it possible to choose a knob or pull with various colors and patterns. When you’re deciding on your color schemes, make sure they work with the walls and floors—it’s an important step!

First things first… please remove hinges and knobs before you start painting your cabinets. If you leave them on, you will inevitably smear some paint. Probably needing two coats of paint on each cabinet, you’re bound to (by accident) paint over a hinge or knob. Make it a little easier by taking these off!

Referencing my mother, she ordered beautiful knobs online, but she was wrong on the screw measurement. She ended up with screws that were too long, and if they had been inserted, there would be a screw sticking out of the back of the cabinets and drawers, which is undesirable but can also be dangerous. Make sure you measure correctly or you may end up with the same problem.

This is a quick and inexpensive fix for a kitchen that needs a face lift or maybe just a little TLC. Don’t be intimidated, this is a fairly simple process, it may take some time. Set aside a weekend where you can paint and finish them in one go so you don’t have to worry about them again.
