The role of leadership in achieving business success is indisputable. Great leaders who create great businesses are “made”, not “born.” You know why? You learn true leadership; it is not automatic. A philosophy once said that there are five domains of leadership: self-leadership, leading another person, leading a group, leading an organization or business, and ultimately leading a nation. If you look critically at the five domains described above, you can vividly see the progressions one goes through in becoming a leader. You can’t lead others and talk less of running an organization if you can’t lead yourself.

Everything that your business is today and everything that will be tomorrow will be the result of your leadership status in directing the course of the business. As Warren Bennis, a leadership expert, put it, “A company with a shortage of capital can borrow money and another with a bad location can move; but a company with little leadership has little chance of survival. “

Leadership is an influential relationship between leaders and followers who seek real change and results that reflect their shared purposes.

Leadership implies influence, it occurs between people, those people intentionally want significant changes and the changes reflect purposes shared by leaders and followers. An important aspect of leadership is influencing others to come together around a common vision. Therefore, a leader is a visionary who influences, motivates, communicates and energizes followers to do what they are normally unwilling to do themselves.

The impact of leadership in building a successful business is enormous. First, leaders make things happen: they are the catalyst for business success; they challenge the status quo; they are driven by vision; they think differently. Second, leaders cope in times of change. They determine the direction; they are people who set and achieve goals; they move organizations from where they are to where they need to be. And thirdly, leaders are revolutionaries — They face reality and mobilize adequate resources; they encourage others to do the same; they leave a trace that cannot be erased.
