4 easy ways to make your cat happier

1. Motivate your cat to be active.

Most people struggle with being overweight and their waistlines continue to expand, and unfortunately your pets experience the same issues as well.

According to a current study, about 55% of domestic cats today are overweight.

This is caused by 3 main problems such as having a sedentary lifestyle, a high calorie diet, and too many sweets.

When cat owners allow their felines plenty of play and exercise, in addition to providing the required daily caloric meals, their cat will stay healthy and live longer rather than have a shorter lifespan and costly medication issues.

Even the simplest cat toys can transform a fat, lethargic cat into a lean, active feline.

2. Take the cat outside for fresh air and sunshine.

Cat lovers may not completely agree on whether indoors or outdoors is better for their pet cats.

No matter what they decide, they need to make sure they provide their kitty with a safe environment to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

You may consider installing an enclosed cattery or catio to protect your cat while you are outside.

3. Build something tall where your cat can climb, hide, and watch.

Today’s felines come from a long lineage of domestic cats dating back 12,000 years.

According to the researchers’ discovery, all current domestic cats stem from one ancestor: Felis sylvestris lybica, an ancient African wildcat.

This African wildcat still exists till now, that’s why they are familiar with it.

Its prominent feature, which makes it stand out, is its small size.

Since it originated in a wild environment, the African wildcat is known to be both predator and prey.

African wildcat as a predator, climbed high into trees/hills to hide and prepare for approaching prey. As prey, it climbed to seek refuge in high places where large predators could not follow.

So what does this mean for cat owners and their feline pets? These modern house cats crave a high hiding place. It’s natural for some agile cats to climb on top of a bookcase or refrigerator.

4. Provide something for the cat to scratch its claws

A cat’s claw will grow continuously.

Since their claws are not cut very often, they file them by scratching them on any surface.

This behavior, which was inherited from their ancestors, offers more benefits than just clipping your nails.

So, to protect your home’s furniture, cushions, etc., you can give your cat their own scratching surfaces.
