However, Anderson says this cleaning technique may not fully remove all of the ash because the air tends to follow the same path through the DPF each time it is blasted. This could leave a lot of particulate matter behind.

Another option is liquid or wet carbon cleaning machine, which utilizes water to flush out entrapped ash from the DPF. But Anderson notes that this can make it more difficult to remove the ash because water will mix with the ash and particulate matter, making it a sludge.

Some DPF cleaning machines require the technician to wear protective gear to protect them from particulate matter and other vapors that can build up during the cleaning process. This can be a hazard for those who have allergies or other breathing problems.

A DPF is a complicated piece of equipment and requires special care when it comes to maintenance and cleaning. The system must be maintained and cleaned properly to ensure it meets or exceeds its OEM specifications and to prevent problems that can affect the health of employees, other equipment or the environment.

The DPF must be cleaned every year or so to ensure it functions correctly and to comply with emissions regulations. Neglecting to clean your DPF can cause it to break down and become damaged, which in turn can cause more expensive repairs.

Regeneration is another important cleaning step that should be taken in order to avoid expensive repairs and fines. When a DPF starts to need regeneration, it will notify the computer in the engine ECM that it needs a cleaning. The computer will then heat up the DPF to burn off the soot.
