How to Spot a Fake Ed Hardy Bag

  • Inside label: Inside the bag there is a fabric label. On the front of the label must be the logo: “Ed Hardy” centered inside the label and “by Christian Audigier” centered below. Always study the symmetry of the logos, if they are crooked or uneven within the label, which is always a red flag. On the back of the tag there should be a serial number. This number sequence must have two sets of numbers separated by a hyphen. There should also be a line below the serial number that runs horizontally. This feature is exclusive to Ed Hardy. On the horizontal seam line there should be a reflective feature or fabric. This means that the line should glow slightly or glow when placed in direct light. When you tilt the sticker under the light, it should flash like a hologram feature. This is not a dramatic flare, but rather a subtle one that can be easily noticed when checking. Many fake bags will not include this unique feature. So study the inside label: front for properly centered logos and reverse for hyphenated serial number and underline for reflective feature.
  • Bag texture: Ed Hardy has a unique, multi-textured exterior consisting of canvas/leather, screen print, embroidery and rhinestones. This means that the bag flows from grainy to smooth, to pointy and rigid. This is a quality feature that fake bags will get wrong. Counterfeiters may use some type of embroidery and possibly screen printing, but they will leave out the rhinestones. Or they will attach some stones but leave out the embroidery function. Many fakes will not incorporate all of these textures, especially the rhinestones. Stones would be the most timely and expensive feature, so always check to see if the bag has real stones (if it’s an Ed Hardy model originally made with rhinestones). Good luck and safe shopping!
