How you learn any song in less than 30 minutes with your guitar

I remember when I bought my first guitar. My mom walked into the house with a guitar case, smiled, and sat her down about 15 feet from me. I immediately ran to get my first Washburn guitar. I quickly began to “play” my new baby…

Just for reference, my version of guitar playing was to lay the body flat on its back like a slide guitar so I could see what I was doing… Ah, those were the days!

My first venture into a song was Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. I went to the search engine and had no idea what a tab was or even how to start looking for one.

I finally started putting two and two together and found a cover of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd from
MXTabs.net long before they shut it down =(

To make a long story short, I broke out in a frustrated sweat in less than 5 minutes, put my guitar back in its case, and went back to playing my video games. That was back then…

This is now…

Guitar tabs sound like perfect English to me now, but at the time I was starting out I couldn’t understand a thing. It seemed like another foreign language to me! My friends laughed when they saw my fingers trying to play a song in the most ridiculous way imaginable. I was just trying to do what the tab was telling me to do, but the tab wasn’t telling me what finger position to play in, or if there were any handy tricks to make it easier on my hands! I was getting tired of this dead end approach to improving my skills.

Here’s my point: guitar tablature sucks then and it sucks now. I’m still waiting for the pioneer to solve this problem for the masses…
