Lace wigs: how to prevent hair loss

Excessive hair loss from your lace wig can be a problem if you don’t care for it properly. There are some maintenance techniques that will help prevent hair loss. First seal the knots on your unit before using it and after each wash. A very good knot sealing product to use is called Knot Sealer. Flip the wig over, spray onto the lace or lace, and allow it to dry completely before putting it on.

Once you wash your unit, let it air dry. After the cap is completely dry, apply your sealer. Spraying extra hold hairspray over tights or lace is also effective. Some wig wearers use an acrylic sealer. It can be purchased at your local craft store.

Another thing that can cause your wig to shed excessively is applying oils or conditioners near the base of the wig where the knots are. This can cause knots to loosen and slip when brushing or combing the hair. Even if you use a knot-sealing product, the use of oils and conditioners can weaken the effectiveness.

When applying conditioner to your unit, try to avoid knots at the base. Make sure your hair is completely dry before combing or brushing it. If the hair is not completely dry, combing loosens the knots. Although it may not fall out right away, once your hair is dry and you start to style it, your wig may start to come off. Also, avoid excessive brushing and combing of the wig. Remember that the longevity of your wig depends on how well you take care of it.
