The attorney general acts as the lead attorney for a legal or government department, or for a corporation. The term is more widely used in the United States. The status and prominence of legal jobs have grown greatly over the past decade, as evidenced by the large number of lawyers entering the position from private practice. Most law jobs require a JD and a minimum of five years of relevant experience. Lawyer jobs are very prestigious and partners in law firms often opt for this position. Salary can range from $100,000 to $200,000 pa depending on experience and ability.

General Counsel Job Description:

The role of the general counsel changes depending on the company they serve and therefore the qualification requirement will also be different. The main function of this position is to represent a department in the cases in which it is involved. General Counsel will advise on the legal environment and legal responsibilities. Helps shape transactions or initiatives to meet legal requirements in a way that does not damage the reputation of the corporation. For a general counsel to be a good adviser, the CEO and other senior managers must ensure that the GC or their staff are included in the initial planning and decision-making process, and are considered partners in the business process. This position also requires a higher level of experience.

Corporate Counsel Jobs:

Corporate attorneys are employed by corporations as in-house counsel. They work as in-house advisors on business and legal matters, such as labor and employment, IP, contracts, and liability. Many large and mid-sized law firms employ attorneys with the title of “counsel,” “special counsel,” or “attorney,” and most of these attorneys are treated as partners with their own supervising associates, clients, and files. Corporate lawyer jobs require a specialization in corporate law that requires relevant electives such as business transactions, creditors’ rights, business regulations, and trial defense. A corporate attorney in a public company advises clients regarding the public disclosure of actions affecting financial matters, including litigation and government investigations, and assists with issues related to securities issuance and reporting requirements. Those who work as corporate advisors in a private company can expect to advise on operational matters, including obtaining loans, employee problems, sales, and company mergers.
