Natural skincare: oatmeal isn’t just for breakfast!

You will be surprised to know that oatmeal; yes, that wonderful cereal we enjoy for breakfast (or maybe not!), is one of the best natural treatments for dry skin. Plain rolled oats can be used to make a very effective and gentle natural skin cleanser, facial scrub, and soothing face mask. An excellent multi-purpose skincare treatment, Oatmeal helps relieve dryness and restores natural moisture balance to help heal minor irritations due to the many causes and origins of skin sensitivity. Minor skin irritations can be caused by sensitivity to ingredients in skin care products, exposure to chemicals found in household cleaning products, exfoliation with the wrong product, excessive scrubbing or rubbing during the exfoliation process and many other factors. Cleaning the face with oatmeal helps soothe skin irritation and reduces discomfort.

Oatmeal, when used as a skin cleanser, actually absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities while providing very gentle exfoliation, leaving skin feeling smooth, soft and clean, without soap. As a face mask, oatmeal deeply cleanses the pores without irritating or drying out the skin. And as a facial scrub, oatmeal gently but effectively removes dead skin cells, revealing softer, smoother skin. Plus, cleansing and exfoliating with oatmeal give you the benefit of a natural, healthy glow.

To enjoy the beauty benefits of oatmeal skincare you will need:

– Rolled oats (not instant) – found in the cereal section of the supermarket

– Blender or food processor

Addresses: Puree the oats in a blender or food processor until the oats are the consistency of flour. In a jar, cover tightly and use as follows:

Oatmeal facial cleanser and scrub: For a small amount of ground oatmeal in the palm, and add a little water to make a paste. Apply to face and throat and massage into skin. Rinse. Follow with moisturizer.

Oatmeal face mask: For a small amount of ground oatmeal in the palm, and add a little water to make a paste. (For a more moisturizing mask, use milk instead of water.) Apply it to your face and throat and leave it on your skin for about 5 minutes. Rinse. Follow with moisturizer.

Oatmeal and lemon face mask: Add a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to the oatmeal and make a paste. Apply to face and throat and leave on skin for 5 minutes. Rinse. Follow with moisturizer. Using the lemon oatmeal face mask weekly can help lighten dark spots and freckles naturally. Lemon juice contains citric acid and vitamin C that work as natural alpha hydroxy acids to help dissolve dead skin cells for brighter, more even-toned skin.

Bail: Fresh lemon juice can cause a tingling sensation that can become uncomfortable. For sensitive skin, dilute the lemon juice with the same amount of water before mixing it with the oatmeal and applying it to the skin. If the tingling becomes severe, rinse the skin immediately with lukewarm water.

Do not use the Oatmeal and Lemon Facial Mask after exfoliating the skin.
