Nelly Furtado’s bisexuality: just a marketing ploy?

By now everyone has heard their new album “Loose”. The album was named after her in part after the TCL band that she admires for “bringing back her sexuality, showing that they were whole women.” It became the most successful album of Nelly’s career, reaching number one in multiple counties.

The June 2006 release was also followed by a series of statements issued by the “Promiscuous” star. The real statement that fired up the press was the one referring to her newly discovered bisexuality.

The “Maneater” singer revealed in an interview with a gay magazine: “I’m reading a book on Chinese medicine that states that all people are inherently bisexual to balance their energies. It makes a lot of sense. As humans, we have men and women.” energy.”

In addition, the singer added that she believes Kurt Cobain’s statement that “in the end, everyone is gay.”

This is partially true. Studies show that men with high sexual desire have a more specific type of sexual arousal, while women with high sexual desire tend to desire both sexes.

That said, I wouldn’t say the artist is wrong. But clearly she doesn’t have the best reasoning for her belief. In my opinion, it would seem more plausible if she had said that she is a woman who loves to have sex and suddenly found out that she enjoys the company of women without saying that this is something she read in a book that states that all people they are inherently bisexual. So, because she read a book, she is now bisexual.

The debate is whether Nelly is dabbling in the bisexual chic that is used for advertising or is it advertising and her statements are due to a marketing strategy.

Bisexual chic is a trend that is now conquering more and more people. Pure bisexual chic is Madonna, who was seen kissing another girl in her “Justify my love” music video and the wow-wow scene at the 2003 MTV Music Awards when Madonna kissed Britney Spears and then Christina Aguilera.

The thing is, sex sells. And girl kissing girl sells even more! Let’s not forget the success that the TATU girls had. TATU’s lyrics and videos allude to the relationship between the two of them, and the girls promote it during interviews. The Daily Mail (London) wrote: “Tatu degrades marketing and music at the same time.”

So is Nelly Furtado using the same marketing strategy as the girls from Tatu? Well, whether she’s using this marketing ploy or not, she’s definitely drawing a lot of attention. Her songs are on the top charts and that says it all.
