If you ask me the same question, I would gladly choose the Richard Branson quote. It turns out that I hate anything that seeks to dampen my spirit.
If I had taken the first as the truth of the gospel, I would have become a frustrated failure years ago, with no energy to keep fighting. I wouldn’t even have the motivation to keep posting on this site.
Fortunately for me, despite the difficult times, I have refused to give up because I sincerely trust that as long as there is life within me, I have the opportunity to fight to impact the world in wonderful ways.
Time without number has proven that regardless of the number of times one has squandered one’s opportunities in the past, the universe still has much to offer to one who refuses to give up trying easily.
The only time failure becomes the enemy of success is when you don’t learn the lessons after making a big mistake. That is why we have another saying that goes like this:
Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
As much as there may be some wisdom in the old adage, opportunity comes only once, I won’t advise you to let it stick in your mind. People who allow this idea of one-time opportunity to condition their attitude in whatever they do are prone to giving up on their dreams too easily as soon as they encounter a problem or two along the way.
From time to time, each of us will fail at something or miss a golden opportunity to do something really great in our lives. Should you stop trying to make an impact on your world every time you meet with failure? Will you quit just because of the saying that opportunity only comes once?
If you watch the movies or read the stories about the lives of great achievers like Frank Sinatra, Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, and Winston Churchill, you’ll marvel at the myriad of missed opportunities they all had to contend with. along the way to their individual glories.
The next time you make a mistake that causes you to lose an opportunity, never throw in the towel. The creator of our universe of overflowing abundance has many more opportunities for you. Get up if you ever fall down. Reinvent yourself and start moving once again if something stops you or derails your plans. Before long, a much greater opportunity will arrive at his door.
And who knows, you may even thank God for missing out on the old one so that you can now make the most of, and possibly more rewarding, the new one.
