Private Golf Lessons vs. Group Lessons

The game of golf can be challenging. There are many people who have played for 5-10 years who are still taking lessons. There are online lessons, group lessons, and private lessons. For the purposes of this article, we are going to focus on group and private classes.

Group lessons are usually a good and inexpensive method of learning the game. The average cost will be around $30-60 per session. The number of students reduces the cost of providing the instructor. This is by far the biggest benefit of the group lesson. The problem with the class is that you will be limited to the amount of individual instruction. If you learn faster than the average new golfer, you will most likely learn less.

In a private lesson, you will get much more individual attention. If you’ve already tried golf, you may have specific requests for advice. You may be interested in correcting specific problems. In this case, a private lesson will be much more advantageous for you.

Some may not like the higher cost of a private session, and there’s no denying that they can be expensive. However, cost should not be the factor. You must first consider the value. A private lesson may cost 40% more, but you can learn 80% more. In this case, you should definitely sign up for the private lesson.

The price of private lessons varies widely depending on where you find them. A private lesson off of Craigslist can run $20 an hour plus green fees, while a club-led private lesson can run upwards of $120 an hour. It would be wise to call all local golf courses first and get their rates before choosing the first course you call.

If you find your private instructor off of Craigslist, ask if they’re certified. If so, ask which organizations he is certified by. Also, find out how long he has been teaching lessons. There is a big difference between knowing how to play and knowing how to teach. Find a teacher who has a lot of experience.

Getting started with golf can be intimidating. It’s good to find a teacher who is patient, understanding, and helps you build your confidence. More experienced teachers have gained a level of patience and are often better instructors for novices.

When signing up for lessons, we recommend always signing up for 4-6 lessons. To improve, you will need to seriously engage in the game and one lesson is simply not enough. There are several ways to learn golf, but the most effective way is to hire a private golf instructor.
