2. Have the shock victim stand up. For the Heimlich maneuver to work successfully, the choking victim must be standing. If the victim is unsteady or panicking, you can help them.

3. Get behind the person who is drowning. For the next phase of the Heimlich maneuver, you need to get into the correct position. Get behind the person who is drowning.

4. Gently embrace the choking victim. Place your hands around the victim’s chest when you are standing behind the victim. The victim’s arms should be up and away from yours. You have to get a good grip on the person’s trunk.

5. Close your hand into a fist. As you hug from behind, place your hand exactly in the middle of the person’s chest in a fist. Don’t stick your thumb in your hand; it has to be on the outside, pointing up. Place your fist above the navel (belly button) area. There is no time to be modest and the victim may need to remove any heavy clothing they are wearing to find the first suitable location. Whatever is necessary must be done to prevent the victim from drowning.

6. Grab your fist. Create the perfect circle when you grab your fist with your free hand. Don’t release your grip on your fist.

7. Start pushing. Keep your arms close; With one hand still closed, push in and up in one motion. You have to push hard on the victim’s abdomen. To dislodge the object blocking the victim’s airway, push with your big fist five times, squeezing harder each time. A firm push will also push air out of the person’s airway, causing them to cough. To do it well, you have to go deep, even if it can hurt the victim. Don’t let this worry you! He will always be grateful for your forceful methods when he can breathe once more. Keep doing this until you expel the object you were choking on.

During the Heimlich maneuver, it is vital to keep the victim well supported in case he or she loses consciousness. If the maneuver is successful, return the victim to a sitting position and do not leave them until their breathing returns to normal.
