Stop Terrorism: A Winning Challenge!
The Bay Area News Group editorial, “You Must Be On Your Guard” (5-2-11), is a message to all citizens. However, Americans need to know what they can do to reduce this dangerous threat to our security.
Terrorism is an unholy war. with evil leaders spreading fear to further their agenda. Terrorists want to rule the world and convince their followers to sacrifice themselves for heavenly rewards. Naive followers do not question and become extremely dangerous.
For centuries, charismatic and controlling men have misrepresented religion for their own purposes.
US examples include:
– Rev. Jim Jones persuaded his followers to move from San Francisco to Jonestown, Guyana, where 909 people died.
– David Koresh and 74 supporters were killed in Waco, Texas.
– Timothy McVeigh blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building, killing 168.
– Cults abuse religion to control families and towns in Utah and other states.
– Priests abuse religion to take advantage of children.
– Men control women. (1 in 4 women in abusive relationships)
Dictators and gang leaders also spread fear to manipulate the “spiritually blind.” Yet they couldn’t survive without a culture that glorifies ego-driven men who play gods in other people’s lives. Uninformed and uneducated citizens allow ruthless leaders to thrive!
THE CHALLENGE AHEAD OF AMERICA!
Many Americans do not understand the power of the human spirit to be renewed and enlightened. When citizens are disconnected from support, they may not be self-aware or aware of their surroundings and “on guard”.
Responsible religions strengthen support for families. They discover that the human spirit can develop a self-protective awareness and intuition. When we learn to trust our instincts and gain self-confidence, we grow courageous, speak up, and take action.
Neighborhood involvement strengthens families. When neighbors communicate, they become observant and pay attention to the safety of the neighborhood. Connected neighbors share information and build trust. By the way, they stop the social isolation that allows criminal behavior to go unnoticed.
Freedom is everyone’s responsibility! Voting is only an obligation for our fellow citizens. We must take responsibility for the safety of our neighborhood and be vigilant. Every terrorist, gang member, criminal, predator, rapist, and juvenile delinquent lives in someone’s neighborhood. A democratic society requires an educated citizenry if we are to remain free.
Americans must stick together to win this unholy war. Informed and involved neighbors can PREVENT future attacks. When our enemies see how we value families, neighborhoods, and communities, we will send a message that we stand for peaceful coexistence for all.
