The true beauty of poetry
We’ve all had that feeling before, of wanting to be able to put our thoughts into words and truly explain to people how we feel. Unfortunately for most, being able to do that is much easier said than done and is often never done. However, for those who are persistent with their efforts, writing and specifically writing poetry can be one of the most relaxing and rewarding activities you can do. Doing it correctly will usually prove quite difficult for some and easier for others, but sometimes just trying is enough.
There are many different types of poetry, though the most common would be haiku, allegory, rhyme, and iambic pentameter. Each of these different types will be written and ultimately read/sound differently, but they all have a special place in the poets heart. For personal poetry, rhyming may prove to be the best path, considering that it’s usually easy to turn the poem into a rhyme which can help it stick and keep things interesting as you go along.
For those who may be skeptical about expressing feelings with poems, know that many successful singers in hip hop and other genres got their start with poetry. The actual lines became the lyrics, and when given a beat, the masses could hear them. However, regardless of this fact, some people simply cannot write or are not comfortable with it and that is why expressing yourself in a different way may be for the best. Art, music, song, and dance are many of the best forms of art that are available to those seeking self-expression.
When all is said and done, poetry is defined as a piece of literature written by a poet to express emotions, with different styles and types of metaphors, similes, etc. So, to be a good poet, it’s important to read and understand what all of these definitions mean before diving into the world of writing. Another technique that can be used is to search a library or the Internet and read some of the works of famous poets in different styles. Doing this will expose you to what’s already out there, as well as give you an idea of how it should be written, but don’t forget not to copy others as this is meant to be your own expression.
