Three players died during their playing career in the Arena Football League

Soccer is a dangerous sport that is often played by young people. Because of this, it is rare for an active player on a soccer team to die. Combine that with the fact that most people don’t associate death with people in good physical condition, and it’s no wonder most people don’t think it will happen. However, it has happened from time to time over the years and it is usually a very notable and sad occasion when it happens.

The National Football League dates back to the early 1920s, and over the years several active players have tragically lost their lives. The Arena Football League is a more modern football league, although it doesn’t have the long history that the NFL does. Even so, in its history, three players have died during their playing career in the Arena Football League.

2005 – Al Lucas

In 2005, at the age of 26, Al Lucas was a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Avengers. He passed away due to the results of a fatal neck injury.

2007-Justin Skaggs

In 2007, Justin Skaggs passed away from brain cancer at the age of 28 while an active member of the Utah Blaze. He played the wide receiver position.

2008 – Johnathan Goddard

At the age of 27 in 2008, defensive end Johnathan Goddard died due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while a member of the Colorado Crush.

Three players also died as active players in ArenaFootball2, a secondary professional indoor soccer league. Two of those players died after collapsing on the field.
