Why not white?

Why not try white paint the next time you paint an interior wall? White is classic, clean and bright, not to mention that any other color you can imagine can be successfully combined with white. The trend these days is to go with “neutrals” for the walls. How much more neutral can you get than the absence of color?

Using white for walls, ceilings, and trim is like a blank canvas on which to create your masterpiece. You can use any color or pattern on upholstery and bedding fabric, or any colored accessory on a white background.

You can also mix it up and paint the walls white, while using color on the ceiling and/or trim. Why not be a little adventurous instead of just white ceiling and color trim on the wall? There is no harm or good in wearing white; goes with everything!

What looks cleaner and more hygienic than a white kitchen or a white bathroom? When you use white for your kitchen or bathroom walls, cabinets, and trim, you can use any flooring and have fun with the color in your bedding and accessories.

Does the room feel a bit cramped?
White walls make a room look much more spacious than it really is. If you add white ceiling and trim it down, it just multiplies that effect. Add a few mirrors and you won’t even be able to judge the actual size of the room. Then you are free to add all the color to the room that you like the most.

White walls not your thing?
If you’d rather not have what some describe as an all-white room, try a white ceiling and adorn the walls with color. Use furniture with white upholstery or slipcovers, as well as white accessories with a splash of color here and there. In the bedroom, crisp white sheets and curtains create a cool, soothing tone that somehow manages to seem cozy. The bathroom is another example; Fresh white towels and accessories give the bathroom a spa-like atmosphere.

Hardwood floors lend themselves well to a white paint treatment. White tile floors have always been classic and timeless, just like white rugs. Of course, you can expect to spend a little more time cleaning those white floors. You can paint the furniture white. Try a white dining table with black or pastel colored chairs, or a white nightstand or dresser; sometimes a little white can go a long way to give a room a light boost.

There are a million ways to use white to lighten, brighten and enlarge the appearance of a room or the entire interior of your home. If you take a minute, look around you and give it some thought, you’ll be amazed at the ways you can think of wearing white every day.
