2010 Beach Girl Resolutions: Toned, Tanned, and Tousled for Summer

It’s the end of the first week of the new year 2010, and those intentionally noted resolutions are already being edited, or at worst, deleted from our diary.

‘Prepare the bikini for the bodysuit for the summer’.

We tried very hard the first day. I met the new coach, the elegant Euro Stephan who was definitely not impressed by our regimen. He threw out the candy canes, gave away all the cakes. Yessirree, there are no sweets in our fridge!

On day two, we rushed, heads down, right past Starbies without even being tempted to use one of our gift cards to fill the stockings.

On the third day, at Stephan’s encouragement, we forced ourselves to drink 32 ounces of that fancy French soap-flavored mineral water that is supposed to remove fat in his country. (Say ah!)

By day four, we were so sore from the new trainer’s advice to do more sit-ups that we have to admit we aimlessly headed to Post-Holiday Sales, instead of the gym. But we felt bad, so we cycled to the shops instead of driving. Day 4 was a bad day – we bought new boots and a pair of jeans that fit us NOW.

Day five we snap out of the post-purchase slump, head to the gym after some freshly squeezed lemon juice, grated ginger and fresh mint tea, wear our new boots and jeans, but grab a latte on the way home after grueling sit-ups supervised by the now proven Stephan.

On day 6 we went straight to caffeine, we skipped the gym.

Yesterday, day 7, the jeans seemed tight, so we dragged ourselves to the trainer to ‘improve’ our program; we ended up panting like show ponies on the elliptical.

As we close out our first week today, we review our best intentions and well-intentioned plans: we’ve already had that extra latte today and it’s not even lunch!

Seeking guidance, we came across these wise facts from those wonderful creatures known as the Victoria’s Secret Angels, supermodels who grace its runways and the covers of its swimwear and underwear catalogues. Not a dimple, not a ripple in them, we thought maybe they had the ‘real’ secret (and we don’t mean Victoria, whoever that is!) to beautiful toned and tanned beach-ready bodies for summer 2010.

English rose Rosie Huntington-Whiteley revealed some of her own secrets to looking fabulous in less of her jeans in an interview in London recently.

“I believe in chicken fillets,” she says. “I’m not saying you have to wear them, but if someone knows me and sees me at a photo shoot, well, there are friends there. I’m not a fan of that push-up look back in the day. But of course you need to wake up with a sexy dress so do what you gotta do girls get ’em in there I’ve been known to have three in at once for photo shoots plus padding.”

(We already feel better.)

Going further, Rosie admitted:

“I don’t wear bras that often. If I do, I don’t like push-up bras, even though I think they’re fun for the bedroom.”

(Of course.)

More Rose:

“As a model, you learn how to use your body and how to make people believe something. So I know how to do something sexy: it’s back arched, butt out, hands on hips. That’s sexy in a sense, though.” there are so many different ways to be sexy.”

(Now we’re picking up on Stephan’s insistence on those fun cat exercises he makes us do.)

Rosie also added some beauty tips:

“I won’t do a lingerie shoot unless I’m tanned,” says Rosie. “I think most women will admit they look better when they’re brunette. I fake a tan, but I don’t recommend tanning beds, and they wear makeup at work.”

(Body makeup? We can barely apply the moisturizing tinted SPF every day.)

But the most surprising piece of advice of all was the way Rosie boosted her self-confidence:

“A good tip for confidence is a good haircut. For me, my hair is important before anything else. Good sexy hair in bed should be a little tousled, nothing too neat. Also, drink a big bottle of water every day as it will take away the bloating – Fiji is the best. Everyone rolls their eyes at this advice but it works – water is God’s drug, that’s what I say.”

And we had pooped Stephan’s watery advice! Well, at least now we can move to Fiji AND leave our hair a mess after those workouts.

We are sure that we will be more toned and ready for our presentation, when the summer arrives.
