3 things to consider when choosing a marina

You will discover that there is nothing like being on a lake or the sea on a wonderful calm, sunny and bright day. It is especially enjoyable if you have your own boat and are not annoyingly limited by time. The concept of having a larger boat that needs to be kept on a dock is nice, but actually selecting a good marina to house the boat is many times an afterthought. Here are some things that you probably want to consider when choosing a marina.

Rental

Sadly for many people, they live five miles offshore, but a really nice marina that you like is about 100 miles away. While keeping your boat in your favorite marina is good, if you are more than thirty miles away, the figures make it clear that you are less likely to take the boat overboard as much as you would if you were close. So keep this in mind when looking for a dock. How easy is it to get there? How often, logically, could you go down there to get the boat out? Is it close enough to where on a strange weekend when you have nothing else to do you could take the boat overboard? These are generally all things to consider when looking for a marina and demonstrate the seriousness of choosing one that is not too far away.

Good maintenance

As much as you love your boat, you will usually spend most of your time in the water, so it is very important to make sure there is a regular maintenance crew around at all points. If you’re floating off the dock and no one is making the effort to keep it clean or make sure the boat stays safe, then you’re much more likely to run into trouble. Simply performing regularly scheduled maintenance, which is typically included in the ship’s accommodation bill, will be of great benefit to you. Also, if you run into any problems, the maintenance team will be around to help you so your weekend doesn’t go down the toilet. Many times it can be particularly expensive and a headache to take someone to a local marina who doesn’t have someone available there constantly.

Refueling station

Finally, look for a great gas station. You can find several marinas that do not have good gas stations on hand. The dilemma you will encounter is the fact that it puts the entire dock at greater risk of fire, simply because they in turn have to pull out mobile boats to refill the boat. The easiest way is to find a good marina that has stationary refueling stations where you can fill your boat. This also saves time and sometimes keeps more moolah in your pockets.
