AP College Football’s Top 25 Teams Week 2
The new AP College Football TOP 25 Poll is out, and it’s pretty much as expected. Ohio State is still number one. Texas is number two. These two teams go to war this week in Texas. One will stay standing with championship hopes. Last season was a great game. Texas managed to take home the victory and propelled them to the national championship. USC moves from sixth place in the preseason to third. They looked very impressive in their win this week.
Auburn and Notre Dame are tied for fourth place. Notre Dame was ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll, so they slipped a few notches here. Their game against Georgia Tech was not impressive. I thought they might slide down in a few more places because of their “just get by” game. I don’t even know how they got 8 first place votes. Those are 8 people who obviously don’t watch the actual games.
West Virginia moves up to 6th place after their lightless victory over the hapless Marshall. Florida is 7 and LSU 8. Coming in at number 9 is Florida State, which just finished their grueling battle against Miami. Neither offense looked impressive in that game. It was all about defense. I’m a little surprised that Florida State is ranked lower than teams like West Virginia, who just turned up the scoring against a non-existent opponent.
The big surprise is California. They are ranked 22nd and should not be in the top 25. They were destroyed this week by Tennessee. Speaking of Tennessee, they moved up to 11th. Here’s the entire AP Top 25 for this week.
