Secrets of Social Media by Diane Griffin

Do you know that your teens should pay attention to their social media habits at least before their junior year in high school? If not, you as a parent need to step in and do something about it.

In the 1960s, universities didn’t care about teens and their online social skills to get into college. Although in the 21st century it seems to be the biggest bling in successful college entries. As a parent, I can testify that I have limited time, energy, and money to help my teenage son get into a great college. The cost of living has dropped, my budget and funding are limited. Even when the adolescent chooses a university, there is no guarantee that there will be a reliable job market at the end of their educational degree of choice.

QUOTE: “In 2008, only 10% of universities verified applications on social media activities and now, in 2012, approximately 80% of universities verified social media activities.”

It is not surprising? !!

What are social networks? It is the videos and graphics of the photographs that show and reveal the gifts and talents of future college students’ activities. There are so many great social media sites to join and be a part of a community. FaceBook, YouTube, and Twitter are the big three most are online to share with today.

Diane Griffin suggests that parents ask their teens which social media sites they participate in and see what they post online. If it is not “college approved,” then the teen should consider changing it to be more professional for a great college. Parents need to ask questions and be aware of this to help a teenager enter college more easily. Diane also talks about how the adolescent can talk with alumni of a university to become familiar with the university and also feel more comfortable if they want to visit. The alumnus may be able to take their teen on a college tour about a year before the final decision is made. I know that as a father I would want that for my daughter now.

This is a wonderful book for parents and teens to give you the complete knowledge of what to do before your teen tries to enter college. Diane’s book will give you “A Beginner’s Social Media Cheat Sheet” that every parent of a college going teen should have. “The cheat sheet helps me now, as my daughter will be attending college in the fall. I already applied and got approved to fill out the FAFSA form. Look it up if you need help in the future.
