Special Edition Macallan Private Eye Scotch Whisky

Macallan Private Eye Scotch Whisky

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Private Eye magazine, Macallans have released a limited edition whisky, the Special Edition Macallan Private Eye. This whisky is made from a vatting of a 1961 Macallan cask. The special edition features a screenprinted label created by legendary gonzo illustrator Ralph Steadman. It’s highly collectible and a delicious addition to your whiskey cabinet.

The iconic bottle was designed by cartoonist Ralph Steadman, a long-term collaborator of Hunter S. Thompson. It is adorned with an illustration by Steadman that is just barely readable on the reverse of the bottle. The label is printed in black on a clear plastic backing, so as not to distract from the main image. The top of the bottle is finished with a thin gold line. A limited run of this whisky was released with a gold capsule and sold exclusively at Fortnum and Masons.

The Private Eye has become a highly collectible whisky. The whisky was created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the private eye magazine and is extremely sought-after. It was cleverly marketed and has risen in value since its release. Today, it commands prices of PS3,500 at auction. That’s a significant premium compared to the standard Macallan Private Eye Scotch Whisky.

A limited-edition release of 5000 bottles, 1991 Macallan Private Eye was bottled in the year that the magazine was launched. The bottle is numbered in gold below the label. While the numbers have no significance to the buyer, collectors might pay a small premium to find one with an interesting number. In addition, the limited-edition Macallan Private Eye may have a higher value because of its unique label design.

The bottle of the 1992 Macallan Private Eye features the artwork of cartoonist Ralph Steadman, who had long been a collaborator of Hunter S. Thompson and the creator of the magazine Private Eye. The Private Eye label has an almost-illegible design that adorns the dark, glossy black liquid. The label is also very thin, with the image barely visible against the clear plastic. It was limited to just 5,000 bottles and was bottled exclusively through the Fortnum and Masons department store chain in London.

The 1995 release of the Macallan Private Eye was a milestone for the brand, highlighting 35 years of the popular magazine. Limited to only 5,000 bottles, this release features a screen-printed label designed by Gonzo artist Ralph Steadman. The bottle design was inspired by a 1961 bonded bottle. Despite the new label, the 1993 release of the Macallan Private Eye is still an impressive whisky.
