Basic Questions and Answers about Medifast

I get a lot of various questions about Medifast. But, I often find that many people have the same concerns. In other words, if one person wants to know about something, chances are someone else has wondered about it too. So, in the following article, I’ll offer answers to some of the most common basic questions I hear about this diet.

How difficult is Medifast?: Well, it’s a diet. But, when it comes to diets, in my opinion, it is one of the easiest. This is due to a few factors. First, you’re eating every few hours, a total of six times a day. Second, you don’t have to do a lot of shopping or cooking. The meals are mostly ready and you just have to assemble them or blend the shakes and soups.

Of course, you may have to get used to not eating exactly the way you want, and there’s no way around that. But you don’t have to worry about counting calories or calculating the ratio of carbs to protein. You only have to worry about compliance. Like I said, there is an adjustment period at first, but I find that once you start getting rewarded from your results, things get easier and that’s often when you start to establish new habits as well.

Does Medifast really work?: There are many clinical studies that seem to indicate yes. There are studies from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the University of Vermont and the state of Maine. If you check the forums and blogs, you’ll see that many people have decent results as long as they comply. Research indicates that 3 to 5 pounds per week is what most people experience. But, I’ve seen less pounds lose on a weekly basis, but I’ve also lost a lot more pounds.

The way this works is that you eat fewer calories, but you also speed up your metabolism by eating more protein and fewer carbs. This means that there are two mechanisms working for you instead of just one.

Is Medifast food good or bad?: My answer to this is that most of it is good, but some things are bad. I’m not too fond of beef stew or tomato soup. But I like chili, eggs, pudding, shakes, and bars. I am very fond of hot chocolate. And I’m also pretty honest about the fact that I add fat-free cheese to eggs and (sugar-free) syrup to shakes. It is very possible, in my experience. This is especially true once the results come in.

How much does Medifast cost?: That depends on the package you choose or if you buy the groceries individually. Many people don’t realize that there are many different packages to choose from. It’s usually cheaper to buy a monthly package (and they allow coupons with these), but you can buy by the day, week, or even a two-week period. Since most people go with the five plus one pack for women, this is the one I will discuss. Most of the time this is around $299. This is for 143 meals or enough for the month. Like I said, they offer free food discount coupons as an incentive that you can use with the package.

Can I buy Medifast at my local pharmacy, supermarket or clinic?: The answer to this is no. Right now, the company seems to prefer to keep control of its own products. You buy the products directly from the company’s website. They are shipped directly to you and this process only takes a few minutes. Now there are some clinics where you can walk in and then walk out with food. But most states have only a couple of these, depending on where you live. So most people just order online.
