Charge while driving, flying or on the track

Can you imagine a system that, using an old Nicola Tesla trick, could charge electric vehicles while they are in motion? Well we have the ability to charge things wirelessly, for example those little gadgets you can buy where you put your electronic device on what looks like a hot plate and the electrons flow into the battery charging it remotely wirelessly. Our Think Tank had come up with many such schemes in the late 1990s, even for moving vehicles.

One such concept was to use high-voltage power lines to charge electric MAVs or micro aerial vehicles (miniature UAVs) for inspection. These MAVs would fly back and forth perpendicular to the power lines as they inspected them, and the energy escaping into the field would automatically charge them. Simple physics and I guess that’s a fun place to think, that’s why I came up with that schematic. I am not alone in innovative creative genius.

For example, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal on August 27, 2013 titled; “Wireless Electric Buses: South Korean Technology Can Charge Vehicles While They’re On The Go,” by Jeyup S. Kwaak. The piece said; “The experiment with electric buses is part of the government’s effort to reduce 30% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2020” and “buses that can be charged wirelessly while in motion” or while they stop using infrastructure on the ground for charging.

This concept is quite similar to the MAV strategy I mentioned earlier, but on a much larger scale of course. What else could we use this technology for, I thought after reading that article. Well, how about these concepts too:

1. Brake lights charging for electric cars
2. Aircraft runway loading
3. Scale charging or truck stop for electric trucks
4. Charging electric skateboards in skate parks

Yes, these are just a few, of course the uses could be limitless, how about electric wheelchair loading areas for hospitals? Parking plates for electric cars in corporations? They already make a home garage device for electric car owners, though some say they’re a fire hazard for that kind of indoor use.

One of the biggest challenges with electric cars, cell phones and other equipment is charging and battery life. If we can solve them, we might find that, in some cases, electricity might be the best way to go. Perhaps Nicola Tesla would love to tell you more, if he were still with us in the current period. Please consider all this and think about it.
