silver salmon fishing

In sport fishing, almost no sport fish species beat mainstays. Composed of tarpon, wahoo, marlin and tuna, these all-time favorites are what made deep sea sport fishing the most enjoyed sport.

For freshwater sport fishing, nothing beats classic bass fishing. To that effect, the bass fishing industry and other related industries have evolved to become multi-billion dollar commercial institutions. One notable institution is the Annual Bass Master Classic Tournament, which involves a number of prominent anglers.

As the prospects for sport fishing broadened, salmon fishing became the next nominee. Equally difficult to bait, especially when fished during spawning season in salmon runs, these fish are mostly timid even taking bait and the slightest provocation will cause them to flee.

Among the most prevalent salmon game species is coho salmon, also known as Coho salmon.

Coho salmon is an anadromous fish, which means that its life cycle leads to migratory practices. When they are young, they spend some time in the river where they spawn. As they mature, they begin to head out to the ocean, where they will grow to an average size of 38 inches and an average weight of 10 pounds, although they can grow up to 36 pounds in weight. Coho salmon are known to feed furiously, gobbling anything they can get into their mouths and that is what made them one of the fastest growing salmon species.

In coho salmon fishing, coho salmon are known for a famous reality, they fight with their anglers reel by reel. A somersaulting 30lb coho salmon can weaken any angler with less resolve and there have been so many occasions where tackle has slipped free from anglers hands or lines snapped due to constant acrobatic displays. Another interesting fact about coho salmon fishing is the voracious feeding instinct of coho salmon, their reckless abandon in pursuit of lures and bait.

Coho salmon fishing is sought after because it is also a delicious treat, if nothing else entices. ‘Wild’ coho salmon, especially whose fat is considerably less than most salmon species, taste better. It is, truth be told, a staple food of several residents of North America. Natural habitats are often shallow water, allowing anglers to access them directly from banks and small charter boats.

Are you interested in trying your hand at silver salmon fishing? Less confident anglers should perhaps try trolling first. It is often rewarding, especially during salmon spawning seasons. But if you’re up to a challenge, nothing beats landing a silver on a fly. Just make sure those cameras work when you’re fishing for coho salmon.
